Pisa e il gioco del ponte
Il gioco del ponte è una tradizione storica pisana che consiste nella rievocazione di una battaglia a colpi di sassate che si teneva sul ponte principale dellla città, il Ponte di Mezzo, tra le due fazioni della città, Mezzogiorno e Tramonatana, situate ciascuna rispetto all'altra dalla parte opposta del fiume Arno. La prima battaglia della storia avvenne nel lontano 1568 e la vittoria fu di Mezzogiorno. Oggi questa manifestazione si divide in due parti: una parata militare con le due fazioni che fanno il giro dei Lungarni e mostrano le armi ai cittadini e la battaglia che si tiene sul Ponte di Mezzo nella quale, al posto delle sassate, i combattenti spingono un carrello come nel gioco della fune. Questo evento si tiene ogni anno a Pisa l'ultimo sabato di giugno.
Pisa and the battle on the bridge
The battle on the bridge is a historical tradition of Pisa which is the re-enactment of a battle, which consists of stone throwing, that was held on the main bridge of the city, Ponte di Mezzo, between the two main factions of the city, Mezzogiorno and Tramonatana, each located relative to each other on the opposite side of the river Arno. The first battle in history took place way back in 1568 and Mezzogiorno won. Today this event is divided into two parts: a military parade with the two factions that make the rounds of the Arno river and show their weapons to the citizens and the battle that takes place on the Ponte di Mezzo in which, instead of stones, fighters pushing a cart as in the game of the tug of war. This event is held every year in Pisa on the last Saturday of June.
